Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis

The album offers for the first time a comprehensive overview of life and art of Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis (born in 1944). It was released in 2014 and based on his retrospective exhibition that was held in the Titanikas showrooms of Vilnius Art Academy.  Vilutis is an avant-garde artist and a master of silksreen. His work, spanning several decades, has left a distinctive footprint in the context of Lithuanian graphic art, and it remains highly relevant and still arouses interest today. The album tracks the artist’s life in art and his diverse activities, also giving information about his milieu and the cultural life of his time. The main parts of the book describe the three periods in Vilutis’ creative life, each represented by examples of his fine art and applied works and accompanied by art critics’ texts. The works featured in the book are mostly sourced from museum collections and the artist’s workshop. They include prints, applied graphics, drawings, paintings, objects and sculptures. The book also introduces his parents – Emilija and Jonas Vilutis – who were talented artists of the mid-20th century. The appendixes to the book contain the key dates of Vilutis’ life and work, an exhaustive list of his exhibitions and his bibliography. The book is illustrated with the photos of the artist’s studio by Gedas Čiuželis.
