ANTANAS KAZAKAUSKAS (1937–2019). Everything is programmed

For the first time, the creative biography of Antanas Kazakauskas (1937-2019) is presented: from the first advertising projects created in the 1970s, examples of book series design, conceptually foreign collages, graphic design experiments for the magazine Our Nature, to the sheets of abstract graphic art that have never been seen in public.

Karolina Jakaitė: “This is a book about the most mysterious hero I have known in my research into the history of Lithuanian graphic design – Antanas Kazakauskas. I was involved in detective and reconstructive processes, and I tried to reveal the totality of his work: to see the codes, repetitions, various coincidences and signs, as if programmed by Kazakauskas. At one time, his choice to be the first to defend the 1962 diploma thesis in advertising graphics seemed to me to be a coincidence, but in the end his importance and brightness as a forerunner became apparent”.

The publication is related to the exhibition “Antanas Kazakauskas. Everything is programmed” (curated by Julijus Balčikonis and Karolina Jakaitė).
