On June 28 – July 16, 2022, an exhibition of works by Ieva Juknytė titled Lightly will be on display at Vilnius Graphic Art Centre’s + exhibition space.
The opening will be held on June 28, from 6–8 pm.
The author of the exhibition says that the recent events have prompted her to bring more lightness and light to the public space. ‘With disturbing news dominating the daily feed, I wish to share with the viewers the joy and optimism of creation, improvised compositions of
colours and objects. I want to talk about my environment and inner experiences lightly, with a smile. My aim is to create a lucid ‘watercolour reality’ in which everyone could recognize their mental states, feelings, and problems, yet through a positive prism.
I want to endow zoomorphic motifs which I discovered while illustrating children’s books with meaning in the adults’ world. Animal shapes full of archetypal metaphors, their speechless stares, and freely improvised figurative compositions are my favourite means of expression that help me find my individual creative language and avoid superficiality,’ the author claims.
Ieva Juknytė graduated with an MA in Graphic Art from the Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts (2005) and Vilnius Academy of Arts (2009), and studied graphic design at the École supérieure d’art et de design d’Amiens in France (2007, 2008). Since 2006 the artist has been illustrating childrens’ books. She takes part in illustration exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.
