Nijolė Šaltenytė

Nijolė Šaltenytė (1946) debuted in the early 1970s as part of a new generation of women graphic artists – strong, distinctive creators who spoke in a poetic visual language and worked in the classical techniques of printmaking. Šaltenytė stands out among her peers for her distinctive style, in which wit and irony intertwine with existential anxiety, themes of introspection and solitude, and rich symbolic thought.
This monograph presents an overview of the artist’s creative work as a whole and her stylistic evolution from her debut in the 1980s to the present day. The book features an interview with the artist and presents all fields of her artistic activity—prints, drawings, small-scale graphic art, and applied art; it also contains a detailed bibliography and a catalog of her works.
