Vida Simon (Canada). Exhibition “The Coat”

I first come to Vilnius 2 years ago while at a residency in Estonia. I was curious to see the country where my great - grandparents had come from. During that visit I went to the Holocaust Museum and there I sow a model of a "malina" - a bunker where Jews hid during WW II. I found it very moving.

I have returned to Vilnius for 6 weeks to do research for a performance that centres around the malinas and the complex layers of history imbedded in this city. My process has included drawing, writing, listening to the stories of people I have met here, and walking through the streets.
